ExtendSim

ExtendSim is a simulation development tool marketed by Imagine That Inc. of Palo Alto, California (www.imaginethatinc.com). It is capable, affordable, and popular. It also facilitates a very broad range of simulations.

SDI was an early adopter of Extend and has extensive experience with it. We have provided training and done modeling projects with Extend since 1990. We also built and marketed add-on tools for Extend which later became features of the base product.

Extend is superb at allowing a model developer to interact with the model as it is being developed. You can create simple models quickly, and its visual modeling environment makes it easy to run the model, look at results, and make changes to the model "on the fly".

Though not the best tool for every modeling situation, ExtendSim is still a critical part of SDI's technology approach. We believe that ExtendSim is best suited for the following situations:

• When it is hard to decide in advance what needs to be modeled
• Where the learning that occurs while building the model is the major desired benefit of a simulation project
• When the system being modeled is relatively smaller or simpler
• When customers prefer to build their own models
• When the final model does not need to be extensively reused or integrated into other applications
